So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night

Well, after living here for a little over 4 months we are pulling out of Maine very soon. I am really going to miss this place. Among the many other friends and places I won´t soon forget, I will especially remember Bradbury, Acadia, Mt. Washington, N.A.S. Brunswick, Coffins Pond, Downtown Brunswick, Moosehead Lake, Mt. Kineo, late-night trips to LL Bean, Freeport, My friend at the gym, and the miles and miles of road, mountain, and forest I road my bike on. This really is an amazing state with unparalleled natural beauty and a very friendly, laid back population. I will visit here again.

Like sands of the hourglass…

A lot has happened in the last couple of weeks. I visited Mount Washington for the first time ever. The views within the Presidential Mountain Range are ridiculous. The scenery ranks up there with The Grand Canyon. Practically every direction yields a breath-taking scene. Just when I thought I could not be more impressed I took a trip out to Moosehead Lake and ran around for a while. Climbing up Mt. Kineo yielded most the awe inspiring views I have ever seen hands down. I could not believe how beautiful the whole area was. I couldn’t help but to think that if Maine had any kind of tech industry whatsoever, that I would live here in a heartbeat. I kind of scoff now when I hear co-workers gripe about how horrible Maine is. How good can it be when your only views of it are from withing an ugly, steel, ship, or from a barstool? There was also a notable side trip that I will not discuss in great detail. For information go to the gallery located below:

In between the two trips detailed above my friends and I fell in love with the local Goodwill Stores (or St. Vincent De Paul’s ;) ) and decided to purchase an assortment of 80’s clothes. We paraded around Brunswick and Bath with our radical threads and though we were first received with a great deal of skepticism, by the end of the night all knew that the Big Iron ran Maine. Kind of ridiculous I know, but we did meet a ton of people based solely on their interest in our clothes. This is what happens when Navy people get bored.

I plan on taking Laura up to Moosehead and Our Happy Place to stay a day or so provided we can find somebody to watch Jade. I plan on renting a cabin and a boat and taking her out to Mt. Kineo. If all goes well I will have another child in about 9.5 months. Just kidding on that one…..kind of. The cabins are beautiful and sit right on the water. They have fire pits where you can just sit back and enjoy the scenery as you roast Jello Pudding Pops, or whatever you enjoy roasting in a fire. I spend most of my days looking forward to that getaway. I am probably setting myself up for frustration but I have no other option.

Until next time, toodles.
